What’s so special
This vintage Hamilton Big Eye Manual Wind Chronograph is a classic timepiece that was produced in the mid 1960s. The watch features a Valjoux 7733 movement, which is a high-quality mechanical movement that was widely used in chronograph watches of the era. The movement is manually wound, meaning that it must be wound by hand on a regular basis to keep accurate time.
The case of the watch is made by J-R Gorgerat, a Swiss watch case manufacturer that was known for producing high-quality cases for a variety of watch brands. The case is made of stainless steel and has a diameter of approximately 38mm, which was considered large for the time period. The case also features a screw-down case back, which helps to protect the movement from dust and moisture.
The dial of the watch is the most distinctive feature, with large sub-dials at the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions it is commonly referred to as the “big eye” or “reverse panda”. The right sub-dial is used to measure elapsed minutes with the chronograph function. The main dial is a beautiful shade of brown, with white and red accents for the hour markers and hands.
The Vintage Hamilton Big Eye Manual Wind Chronograph Valjoux 7733 J-R is a highly sought-after timepiece among collectors of vintage watches. Its combination of a high-quality movement, distinctive dial design, and beautiful case make it a true classic of mid-century watchmaking.
