What’s so special
The jury is still out if Universal Genève or Buren came out with the micro-rotor first. The remarkable innovation was introduced almost at the exact same time by both companies. This example of the Buren Caliber 1000A, signed as the Hamilton Caliber 666, is one such implementation of the unique micro-rotor movement.
A micro-rotor is a small, oscillating weight in an automatic watch movement that is used to wind the mainspring. Micro-rotors have several advantages over traditional full-size rotors: Compact size: Micro-rotors are much smaller than full-size rotors, which allows them to be used in smaller watch cases. Elegant design: Because they are smaller, micro-rotors can be placed closer to the center of the movement, which makes the watch look more elegant, thin, and refined. Durability: Micro-rotors are generally more durable and less prone to wear than full-size rotors, as they are subjected to less stress and strain during operation.
The Hamilton T-500 Thin-o-matic is a vintage wristwatch that was produced in the 1960s. It has a stainless steel case with a width of about 34mm and a thickness of about 10mm. The case has a snap-back and the bezel is made of stainless steel. The watch has a white textured dial with a unique chrome pie-pan and polished hands.
Why SWC loves it
Given the explosion of Polerouters from Universal Genève, this presents an excellent opportunity to own an equally well made micro-rotor watch for a fraction of the cost. This Hamilton Thin-o-matic is remarkably innovative, beautiful, and extremely well made. Plus, we just love the character of the chrome-pie pan dial with circular embossing pattern behind the equally unique hands.
About this example
This Hamilton Thin-o-matic T-500 micro-rotor comes to you in good condition on a brown leather strap. The dial and hands are in well preserved condition and the lume is believed to be original. The case preserves its original geometry well and appears unpolished but has some wear as expected with age. The Hamilton Caliber 666 (Buren 1000A) micro-rotor movement was just serviced, runs superbly and is keeping excellent time given the age of this watch. The automatic winding mechanism is working flawlessly and never needs a wind if worn every day. Comes with a card certifying the service date, beat error, amplitude, and rate.
