What’s so special
In 1970, Seiko’s Daini Seikosha factory created the thinnest automatic chronograph movement up to that time: the 7017. With a thickness of just 5.9 mm, the 7017 was a marvel of packaging and engineering to achieve the small form factor. To achieve this small form factor, Seiko dropped the minute counter sent on 6138/9 chronographs in favor of sophisticated rotating inner bezel designs such as this one.
During the 1970s this 7107A was featured in a number of JDM only models including this rare reference 7017-6000. Many of these models made it to the United States via cruise ships, duty free, and international travelers such as this great example.
Why SWC loves it
Exclusivity, history, and horological significance. What more could you want from this wonderful vintage Seiko. We quite like the rotating inner bezel and unique timing complication on this model. Truly collectible and hard to find on any other watch models. This is the only Seiko of the 7017 series we’ve personally seen and are going to have trouble parting with it from our collection!
In addition, this Speed-Timer chronograph is a Seiko 5! Meaning automatic winding, a day and date display, water resistance at original sale, a recessed crown, and a durable case
