What’s so special
In the 80s Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro teamed up with Seiko to produce some of the most unique memorable watches ever made. They featured unique case finishing, frequently asymmetric designs, and sci-fi inspiration. This example is one of the rarer models featuring a high end quartz chronograph movement with day/date calendar, 10ths seconds counter and tachymeter bezel.
Why SWC loves it
When it comes to quartz movements these 7A38 movements are about as good as they get. Hit the chronograph start button and the 10ths counter snaps to life spinning around its subdial once per second. Once finished, hit the reset button and you’re rewarded with one of the coolest reset actions in watchmaking as the three counters make their way slowly around the dial and back to zero in a very satisfying sweep. Definitely read the manual on this one, there’s lots of features; even the chronograph reset positions are adjustable!
Plus, just look at it. The 80’s cool never ends and this watch looks right at home blasting xenomorphs on LV-426.
